Could you beat Pokémon Emerald with only a Wobbuffet?

MahDryBread did a solo run with a Wobbuffet on Pokémon Emerald. Here’s how he did. If you’ve played Pokémon after Gen 2 or seen the anime, you’ll know Wobuffet. It’s a giant blue Pokémon with a soft body and a black tail with eyes. It’s also a gimmick Pokémon. Wobbuffet only learns four moves: Counter Destiny Bond Mirror Coat Safeguard No TMs, no HMs, and no tutored moves. It also has atrocious stats except for a huge HP stat. With that in mind, gamer and YouTuber MahDryBread went on a solo run with Wobbuffet on Pokémon Emerald. His ridiculous journey took him through Hoenn in Generation 3 as he tried…

Pokémon Infinite Fusion – the ROM with 99,225 possible combos

The Pokémon fusion memes going around might get a bigger boost with this 2015 ROM hack. In The Ghost of Maiden’s Peak (IL020), a Gastly created a Pokémon fusion that has stuck with me to this day: Venustoise. A Venusaur and a Blastoise combined. It has never featured in any official Pokémon or Nintendo media but it did spawn a multitude of fan-created fusions. Fast forward a few years and web developer Alex Onsager created a Pokemon Fusion generator, allowing fans to create their own unique combos. Venustoise lived on (even if the face looked less refined). In June 2019, a Tumblr user named ijustreallylikeeevee created a post offering a…

The Funniest Pokémon Video I’ve Ever Seen (starring Leonardo DiCaprio)

Well, sort of. You’ll see what I mean… (Spoiler warning: if you want to watch the whole series of Mr Talent and Shadypenguinn’s Rival Locke 4, don’t read this article.) I’ve been a big fan of the Rival Locke series since I discovered it in 2017. It helped me through some rough times and I’ve been watching ever since. The fourth series started a few months ago on Pokémon Black and White and finished last month with Mr Talent winning his third in a row. It was a tumultuous series for both players, with numerous resets and legendaries spoiling everyone’s fun. Let’s just say it was white out galore on…

    Fantasy Pokémon Teams

Are you a Pokémon veteran and want some ideas for your team? How about some fantasy-themed teams based on cartoons? As of today, there are a total of 809 different Pokémon meaning 382,197,543,688,324 team combinations and that’s if you don’t have more than one of the same creature amongst the six. That number is 382 trillion, 197 billion, 543 million, 688 thousand, 324. Picking the right group can be tricky, whether you’re playing competitively or for fun so if you’re bored of picking the same Pokémon each time, why not spruce things up a bit? Inspired by a Reddit post I saw the other day, I’ve put together some “fantasy…

How to Trade From Pokemon Red/Blue/Yellow To Omega Ruby/Alpha Sapphire

Stop the press! With a little bit of money and patience, you can now trade Pokemon from Gen 1 to Gen 6. Most entranced Pokemon trainers gained consciousness when Ruby and Sapphire was released in 2003. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve heard the phrase “there are too many Pokémon now, I remember when there were just 150″. I used to think that too but I’ve grown accustomed to the breadth of the Pokémon world. Amongst us are players who want to trade their original RBY Pokémon to the new games – for nostalgic purposes. Lord knows if I’d kept the saves I had, I’d have the greatest…

So You Wanna Be A Master? Part 2: Pokemon Silver

The series continues as Luke Davis talks about his first experiences with Pokémon Silver. The year is 2000. The month: October. I’d moved over 4000 miles across the Atlantic to Atlanta with my parents as my dad got a teaching job there. The stay lasted six months but my parents enjoyed it as much as a trip to a Nazi dentist. there were some happy memories to take from the experience though. I’ll start with a little background info… A few weeks into my stay, my Gameboy was misplaced and stolen. Amongst the games stolen was my beloved Pokémon Blue cart. I’d lost my Blastoise and my legendary team. For…

Maxo Remixes “Catch Me If You Can” From First Pokémon Movie

Brooklyn producer reworks “Catch Me If You Can” from Pokémon: The First Movie. I still own VHS tapes, and one of my coveted videos is Pokémon: The First Movie. I saw it at the cinema and thoroughly enjoyed watching it back at home. The soundtrack was particularly catchy. The song “Catch Me If You Can”, co-written and performed by Angela Via, was one of my faves and to coincide with Pokémon’s 25th anniversary, Brooklyn’s Maxo “bombmixed” the track into something equally as feverish. The rework is as contagious as Pokérus and preserves the peppy sounds of the ’90s. Stream it below.

So You Wanna Be A Master? Part 1: Pokemon Blue

In this series, I talk about my experiences with each Pokémon game from the first generation to the seventh. This is about Pokémon Blue. I was 9 years old when I felt the adrenaline-fueled rush of tearing away the cellophane from a Pokémon cartridge box. I’ve since experienced other joys and pleasures that eclipse it in intensity but there’s a special place in my heart for a new Pokémon game. Despite red being my favourite colour, I felt a kinship with the cobalt box of Pokémon Blue and the mascot adorning it. I heard from friends that it was called Blastoise and evolved from one of three starter Pokémon. This was like nothing I…
