A custom Game Boy Color made of brass

Metal Game Boys are nothing new but a brass one? That’s interesting. Impractical, but interesting.

While this isn’t an actual Game Boy, it’s still an impressive steampunk-themed build courtesy of Jiří Praus. The hardware comprises of a ESP32 running the Odroid GO emulator firmware and a 2.2″ color TFT screen. This is all housed in a brass/plastic hybrid case—brass in the front, plastic in the back. This allows a player to see the Game Boy’s guts, featuring point-to-point brass wires. Exquisite.

The downside of this build is its lack of portability as the innards are exposed and not conduicive to outdoor play. But if you’re still not ready to go out into the still-pandemic world, that might not be so bad.
