Bitmap Books, what is you doin'?

Bitmap Books has brought us a variety of brilliant gaming books (one of which I own) but lately, they’ve been aligning themselves with some bad people and doubling down on the support.

The first example was supporting the author of The Definitive Book of SNES RPGs, Moses Norton aka theWellRedMage who is known for some xenophobic posts aimed at Brazilians1. Bitmap initially decided to donate the author’s royalties to charity before reversing this so he got all the royalties and Bitmap donated their profit for the first print run. A general mess of a situation on all fronts but it seemingly emboldened Moses Norton who claimed this as a victory against cancel culture2.

Then there was a sponsorship of TheGebs24, a retro game content creator known for causing a pile-on against a retro game store that refused to let her film on premises (which they’re entitled to do)3. Oh, and she’s shown support for known fascist Tommy Robinson.

For those reasons, I’ve taken down any posts for Bitmap Books because clearly they put profit and image over anything else and I’m not willing to support that.
