Did you know that Final Fantasy III was meant to come out for the WonderSwan Color? There was even a webpage for it on PlayOnline1 back in 2001 and it offered similar graphical upgrades to its Final Fantasy 1 port. The official reason for it not coming out was due to the game expanding beyond its cartridge limitations but Unseen64 doesn’t think that was the case:
The strange thing is that Final Fantasy I and II remakes and Final Fantasy IV were all deployed on a 4MB cartridge and Wonderswan theoretical biggest cartridge size was 16MB in fact a few games (even Squaresoft own Front Mission) were stored on 8MB cartridge, with Konami’s Beatmania being the only game weighting 16MB so storage space limitation is unlikely to be the main culprit.
Either way, we didn’t get the finish product so all we have are images. Maybe one day someone will get hold of a demo and finish it off. But then maybe pigs will fly over a frozen lake in Hell. It’s 2025 so anything can happen!
