MerryBytes did a great retrospective on Dragon Quest Monsters, the popular Dragon Quest spin-off series. He looked at the monsters and breeding mechanics and how the story and gameplay evolved over the years, starting on the Game Boy Color with Dragon Warrior Monsters and finishing with Terry’s Wonderland 3D (this was from 2018 so Dragon Quest Monsters: The Dark Prince hadn’t been released yet—but you should check that out!)
My DQ journey started with Dragon Warrior Monsters and I loved it so much. I’ve since started DWM2 and The Dark Prince and I’m thoroughly enjoying both. Having seen the PS1 game, I’m tempted to try that at some point.
