There was a lot in today’s Nintendo Direct but one of games that stood out to me was F-ZERO 99. It’s a reimagining of the 1990 SNES classic but in the 99 format. What that means is you race against 98 other drivers in a battle royale type thing and it looks wild. But there are extra features including the ability to boost your speed and a “Skyway” to overtake your opponents in the air. Maybe this should have been called F-ZERO 3099 (heh, because it’s so futuristic!!! …hello?)
I’m not sure if I’ll play as I find the original game pretty hard after a while so the thought of 98 other people on the track with me fills me with anxiety. But it does look fun on paper.
F-ZERO 99 is available exclusively to Nintendo Switch Online subscribers from today.
