Before the home consoles took over, arcade machines reigned supreme. Millions of grubby hands slotted millions more quarters, fifty pence pieces, and various other currency into their favourite cabinets, itching to beat a high score or experience a new arcade game for the first time.

Distant Arcade wouldn’t have its name without them and this category page covers everything from arcade cabinets—old and new—to a variety of arcade games, as well as the companies that made them including Atari.

There’s an Appalachian Pinball Museum in North Carolina and it looks so cool: Two large rooms house roughly 65 pinball machines—some rare, most playable—and a separate video arcade holds 15 or so more games. The oldest machine, a 1947 Gottlieb Marjorie, predates having flippers on the playfield.
