Namco was a Japanese video game and entertainment company that was founded in 1955. In 2006, after merging with Bandai, it became Namco Bandai Games (now Bandai Namco Entertainment as of 2015).
As Namco, the company entered the home console market in 1984 and its American division gained a majority share in Atari Games a year later (although they sold some of it in 1987 due to disagreements). After working with Nintendo, Namco went on to make games for cthe Sega Genesis, TurboGrafx-16, and PlayStation.
We have Namco to thank for titles such as Pac-Man, Tekken, Galaxian, and Ridge Race and their prestige in arcade history goes without saying.
