That time when Pac-Man got a Christmas special

A lot of video game franchises got TV series in the 80s and 90s (we’re looking at you, Mario and Sonic!) and Pac-Man was no exception. In 1982, Pac-Man got a Christmas TV special called Christmas Comes to Pac-Land which followed the yellow puck man and his friends as they tried to save Christmas from the evil Mezmaron, who looked like Darth Vader after Luke took off his mask in Return of the Jedi.

Of course, with it being Christmas themed, it wouldn’t be complete without Santa, his reindeer, and lots of presents, as well as other characters from the franchise including Ms. Pac-Man (credit as Mrs. Pepper Pac-Man), Pac-Baby, Sour Puss, and Chomp Chomp (voiced by the legendary Frank Welker).

Unfortunately, the special wasn’t a success with many critics unsure about the animation style and humour. Tom Long from the Santa Cruz Sentinel called the special the ultimate insult to viewer intelligence. Ouch!
