I found this YouTube channel called This Week In Gaming that posts archival footage of consumers browsing for video games as well as news reports, games shows, and midnight launches. This one caught my eye as it shows what was on the shelves in Virgin Megastore 33 years ago: NES, SNES, Mega Drive, Game Gear, and Game Boy games all make an appearance.
This was a year before I got my first true gaming experience but I remember these kinds of shelves as I got older and not being able to buy any of them. I do miss the days of tactile video game shopping though, even if the prices were more out of reach than the physical boxes on the shelves.
