For the vast majority of the world, video games has formed some part of our lives and mostly as children. Without them, Distant Arcade wouldn’t exist, so it’d be foolish of us to ignore a hall of fame for all the cartridges, discs, and circuit boards that have provided the planet with hours of fun. The Strong Museum in Rochester, N.Y., hosts the National Toy Hall of Fame and will house the first World Video Game Hall of Fame in June when the inductees will be announced. But this month, the 15 finalists were named as follows:
- Pong
- Space Invaders
- Angry Birds
- Minecraft
- Doom
- FIFA Soccer
- Legend of Zelda
- The Oregon Trail
- Pac-Man
- Pokémon
- The Sims
- Sonic the Hedgehog
- Super Mario Bros.
- Tetris
- World of Warcraft
I remember voting Pokémon (naturally) a few months ago so it’s fantastic to see it made the final 15. Unfortunately, only a handful will make it in to HoF for 2015 so we’ll have to see what games made the cut next month. I will admit the inclusion of Angry Birds is surprising amongst a lot of old school classics, but that goes to show how incredible the game’s meteoric rise has been over the past few years.
