So let’s break things down:
- James Turner, designer of 22(?) Pokémon across multiple gens and the first Westerner to officially design a Pokémon, announced he had left Game Freak to start a studio with Johnathan Biddle
- That studio is called All Possible Futures
- He then announced their first project called The Plucky Squire
That’s a lot to happen in the space of 24-48 hours. The trailer above reveals a wonderful-looking adventure game that switches (heh) between 2D and 3D, complete with the usual adventure mechanics like shooting, slashing, and spell-casting.
I’ve always loved Turner’s art style so being able to see it in its true form is a joy to behold. I also adore the 2D/3D switch in gameplay.
The Plucky Squire is out in 2023 for PC, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series.
