Strafefox uploaded a cool video on how smaller Mega Drive/Genesis developers pushed sales of their games and the console itself and how Sega took a chance on them to flourish. The video includes studios like Climax Entertainment (the Shining series), Game Arts (Alisia Dragoon), and Treasure (Gunstar Heroes), as well as bigger third-party developers like EA. Watching this definitely made me want to explore some of their titles and appreciate the craft.
