Pokémon HeartGold and SoulSilver are the first remakes I’ve posted commercials for as I couldn’t find Japanese ones for FireRed & LeafGreen. Gen 2 was my favourite up to this point so I was super excited to get the games in 2010. I even managed to snag a red Nintendo DS Lite for £20 to go with it (which I lost on a bus 4 years later along with my copy of Black 2 but I’ve since got another one—and a Japanese copy of Black 2 but I digress). It was the perfect blend of Gen 4 mechanics and Gen 2 nostalgia, and let’s take a moment to appreciate the Pokéwalker.
As for the commercial, Nintendo lean into the retrospection (a common theme in later commercials) and then present us with the legendaries roaming Johto, before finishing with the starters and Pichu showcasing the Pokéwalker.
