Welcome to the Advanced era of Pokémon. Pokémon Ruby, Sapphire, and Emerald were the first games on the Advance, thus breaking its ties with the first two games and causing a problem for trainers—how the hell were they gonna get Gen 1 and 2 Pokémon on their games to complete their Pokédexes? That’s where FireRed and LeafGreen game in but that’s for another post.
Ruby, Sapphire, and Emerald added more important mechanics and also got rid of some (no more day and night, for example) but the Berries were vastly enhanced and so was the total number of Pokémon with 386 including the new Mythicals. Both commercials showed off their weather and terrain themes with trainers exploring caves and the elements to find the box legendaries: Kyogre, Groudon, and Rayquaza. Advanced indeed!
