Antoine Mayerowitz uses Pareto optimization to find the most efficient Mario Kart 8 racer

I know that title sounds like a mouthful and you might shudder at the thought of needing a mathematics degree to understand it but hear me out.

Economist and data scientist Antoine Mayerowitz used a mathematical decision making principle called Pareto optimization to find the most efficient Mario Kart 8 racer. The idea behind it all was to find a perfectly balanced racer with the best acceleration, speed, handling, weight, offroad, and/or mini turbo. The interactive explains everything in a clear way and while the approach isn’t perfect and there’s a lot of criteria to balance (and you can’t balance ALL of them), it’s an interesting approach to optimising how you play the game.
