Jesus, enough with the gaming announcements and trailers!

When I decided to lean more into my gaming side this year, I wanted to start small so I made a backlog list and just started going through it. We’re halfway through the year and I’ve got through about 8 games and dipped into a few more. But 2025 is also the year that we got the Switch 2 and all the “controversy” involving its release and games. And Summer Game Fest which is an annual thing but it’s still here! And Sony’s State of Plays. And Xbox Games Showcase. And GTA VI (finally). And Clair Obscur came out.

Does anyone else have a headache? Is anyone else overwhelmed by the sheer volume of gaming announcements and trailers? It’s relentless and expensive and who has the time for all these games? FOMO is tough to avoid at the best of times but when companies bombard you with new stuff or remakes/sequels/remasters of old classics, it’s nigh on impossible to ignore.

Luckily a lot of the announced games aren’t ones that I’d play. The Pokémon ones are an exception, of course, but otherwise I can wait to play Mario Kart World whenever I get a Switch 2 (which is not any time soon). Even so it’s a lot right now and it can make you feel like you’re a fake gamer somehow—or not one at all. In terms of that leaning into my gaming side, it’s going alright on a personal level but I don’t feel like I’ve connected with anyone outside of that. Everyone just seems to be into *everything* and I’m watching from the outside, uninterested. Even with my favourite series, I feel out of place. And the trailers keep on coming and keep adding to that distance.

Oh yeah, and all the bloody AI crap. How could I forget that?
