A Sprite Analysis of Pokémon Red/Blue/Yellow

How cool were the sprites in Pokémon Red, Blue, and Yellow? Relive the pixel art with Brandon James Greer’s sprite analysis.

Brandon James Greer did a sprite analysis of the first Pokémon games for his YouTube channel last February. I never fully appreciated how intricate and interesting Gen I sprites but Brandon gives us an in-depth look.

Besides looking at how cool the sprites are themselves, he also examined the relationship between different objects within the 20×18 tile space. I do love pixel art and while I like the graphics of the newer games, there’s something quaint about the original sprites.
