SuperZouloux has developed a Yu-Gi-Oh! AR game

Yu-Gi-Oh! was a global sensation in the 2000s and 2010s through its manga and anime series, and trading card game and remains a powerhouse on the latter front. That success lent itself to a slew of video games on all platforms (shout out Forbidden Memories) and now it looks like there’s a new kid on the block.

In the above video (in French with English subs if you need them), SuperZouloux showed off his new game which has its own AR system. He had to learn Unreal Engine 5 from scratch in order to get it this far. It works as follows:

  • Place a card on the mat
  • Wait for the monster to appears as a 3D model
  • Watch as the camera angle changes so you can bask in its glory

As Kotaku remarked, it’s a bit like the Star Wars holochess set from Solo and I hope this gains in popularity and success as the project progresses.
