Legendary archivist Jason Scott put together a collection of handheld toys back in 2018 but rather than focus on consoles from Atari, Nintendo, and SEGA (as in the Game Gear, for example, rather than the Sonic one above), Scott collated 75 toy handhelds; you know, the ones from Tiger Electronics, Tomy, Bandai, and Coleco. And there’s more: each one has an emulator, allowing you to play them like it’s the year 19-whatever!
Feast your eyes on the Speak & Spell, Simon, Master Merlin, and a ton of movie tie-in toys alongside arguably the most famous of the collection is the Tamagotchi, which is seeing a bit of a renaissance at the moment.
