I stumbled upon this video from Julian Morley aka Noodle, about the effect that CRTs have/had on pixel art over the years. Most of the comparisons were between sharp pixels and the CRT effect smudging the dithering together thanks to hardware limitations of the time.
Of course not all pixel art nowadays benefits from these effects as current hardware is capable of so much more but some artists still offer that experience whether you have the hardware to pull it off or you use shaders via software emulation.
