Retro gaming is a hot commodity right now and there are plenty of YouTube channels and resources sharing historical gaming artefacts and long-lost peripherals. WePC has joined in with an interactive guide about “a brief history of video games”:
Video games have come a very long way since they first came into existence nearly fifty years ago. You only need to take a look at your favorite childhood video games to appreciate how much video gaming technology has advanced in the last decade or two.
The guide is split into three parts: When & How Were Video Games Invented, a Video Game History Timeline, and Video Games Today and covers a lot of ground since the first electronic games in the 40s and 50s. As the title suggests, this is only a brief history so you won’t see names like Jerry Lawson or the vast number of Japanese game designers that shaped the landscape in the 80s and 90s. But what you get is a glimpse at video game evolution and the consoles and games that pushed the boundaries of what was technologically possible.
